1. Switch on the Dark Mode
One of the hep things these days on the phone is the Dark Mode. It’s one of the most requested features. And thanks to the gorgeous Super AMOLED display and with dark mode, it looks beautiful. One UI has it, and it’s super simple to turn on. Just head over to Settings, Display, and enable the toggle next to Dark Mode. Alternatively, there’s also a quick settings toggle if you prefer that.
2. Turn on Always on Display
The Dark Mode looks great with AMOLED displays, but the phone looks stunning even with the screen turned off. All thanks to the Always On Display. Now to turn it on, head over to Lock Screen settings and tap on Always on Display. Here, you can customize the kind of AOD you want, along with various clock settings and more. I like to keep it at Always On, but if you’re going to use it to check the notifications, the Tap to Show option is what you should pick. Now hit the power key to turn off the display and check out the Always on Display mode.
3. Customize Power Button
Well, you can customize the power key too. To do that, head over to Settings, Advanced Settings, and tap on Side Key. Here, you can customize the actions are per your liking. I use the double-tap action to launch an app and long press to open the Power off menu but feel free to keep using Bixby if you like.
4. Change the Navigation Gestures
One of the pains of using a phone with a tall display is getting to the Status bar while using a single hand. Thankfully, the navigation gestures have matured enough to save you any trouble of stretching your thumb. Also, it’s fun using them to make the best of the phone’s 6.5-inch display. Head to the Display Settings, and scroll a bit down to enter the Navigation Bar option. Then, tap on Full Screen Gestures to enable them. After that, you can start using gestures with the phone, like executing some Jedi tricks on it.
5. Activate One-Handed Mode
While navigation gestures are cool, they don’t cancel out the importance of the One-Handed mode entirely. It works like a charm and helps you in using the device easily. Now to enable it, head over to Settings > Advanced settings > One-handed mode and turn the toggle next to it. You can choose from having a Gesture or a Button for it, but if you have the navigation gestures enabled, then you can only have the former option. Now, you can swipe down in the center of the bottom edge to enter this mode.
6. Face ID Rival
While Apple’s Face ID is quite fun and solid, it does come with limitations. Samsung goes a step ahead in One UI 2 by adding a way for you to store two different faces for facial recognition. You can have your regular look and one with glasses or hat on. To enable it, head over to Biometrics and security in Settings, and tap on Face Recognition. Here, tap on Add Alternative Look to register the second face. Now you can unlock your phone with either face that you have registered.
7. Link to Windows
Samsung’s flagships carry a feature called Link to Windows, which allows you to transfer photos, send SMSes, and receive notifications on your PC — all wirelessly via the My Phone app. Guess what? You get the same on Galaxy A51. To enable it, head over to Settings > Advanced Settings > Link to Windows. Note that you will need to log in with the same Microsoft account on both devices. 8. Call/Text From Connected Devices
With Link to Windows feature, you can use your PC to view notifications and reply to SMS, Samsung goes a step further in its ecosystem, allowing you to take calls and text from your connected devices too. For instance, I can take my phone calls from my Galaxy Tab S6 also. To do this, log in to the same Samsung account on both the devices. Then, head over to Settings > Advanced Settings > Call & text on other devices. You will see all the connected devices on the list. Just enable the toggle next to the device you want.
9. Use The 48MP Mode
Samsung phones have been packing some serious imaging capabilities lately, and this one carries a 48MP camera. However, it’s not active by default. So first, enable the 48MP mode Tap on the aspect ratio option at the top, and select 3 by 4 H. This stands for High Resolution, which is just what we want. It’s not that convenient, but that’s just how things here are.
10. Create GIFs
You may already know that the Motion Photos allow you to create GIFs. However, you can easily generate more GIFs using one simple trick. Head over to Settings. Then, under the Pictures settings, tap on the Hold Shutter Button, and change it to Create GIF. Now, each time you hold the button while taking a photo, the app will automatically record a video for you and save a GIF of it.
11. Use Floating Shutter Button
Are you bugged by the fixed position of the shutter button? Well, you can move it around too. To do that, drag the shutter button out, and it will launch a floating button that you can place anywhere. Now, if you want to remove it, drag it back on the main shutter button.
12. Tweak Camera Options In Tray
The shutter button isn’t the only thing that you can move around. You can even edit the options shown in the main bottom tray. Tap on the More tab, and tap on the Edit icon in the bottom right corner. Now you can drag and drop the modes you want, and remove the ones you don’t want.
13. Shot Suggestions
Another way in which the Galaxy A51’s camera comes in handy is by helping you frame a great shot. We’ve seen this feature on Vivo’s devices too, and it’s nice to have it here too. Now to enable it, head over to the Camera Settings and enable the toggle next to Shot suggestions. Now each time you try and take a shot, it will help you align the frame in a way that the focus is clearly on the subject.
