Sure, the above specs are enough to lure anyone into buying the OnePlus 6, given the fact that OnePlus devices fall in the affordable segment compared to its competitors. It’s true that OnePlus has been steadily increasing the price of its products over the last years, but that’s also true for other flagship phones (read Samsung). So, should you buy the new OnePlus 6 all for the awesome features or is there something more than meets the eyes? We weigh the pros and cons of the OnePlus 6 in this post and help you get a clear picture.

OnePlus 6 Pros

1. Snappy Processor for the Price

The OnePlus 6 is powered by the newest mobile platform from Qualcomm — Snapdragon 845. Boasting of a 10nm design process, Kryo 385 cores at its heart and Adreno 630 GPU, the Snapdragon 845 is one of the fastest processors. It has been seen in a few select flagships such as the Samsung Galaxy S9/S9+ and Sony Xperia XZ. The new chip gives a 25% boost in the performance and has improved task-sharing capabilities and low latency. The bottom line is that the Snapdragon 845 is extremely fast and will sail through gaming and multitasking activities with ease.

2. A Tall and Notch-ed Display

Love it or hate it, the notch is here to stay. The OnePlus 6 is the first phone in the OnePlus family to join the notch brigade and the second phone to do away with the standard 16:9 aspect ratio. It sports a 6.28-inch FHD+ Optic AMOLED display with an aspect ratio of 19:9. The AMOLED display of the OnePlus 6 produces rich, bright and crisp colors. Plus, with a tall display, you get more vertical screen real-estate to browse through your social media feed, emails, articles, etc. There’s no denying the fact that the notch is one of the most polarizing smartphone designs. If you’re not a big fan of this design element, the good news is that you can disable it from the Settings menu.

3. Get a Taste of Android P

The OnePlus 6 is one of those lucky smartphones for which Android P Beta would be available. If you are someone who loves tinkering with new Android updates, this is the time for you to try some of the latest Android P features. Other than that, the Oxygen OS running on top of Android Oreo 8.1 is as clean and clutter-free as the earlier versions. The thing which I love about Oxygen OS is that you get a near stock Android experience without sacrificing the additional features. Also, the new version holds some key additions such as Smart Folders, Gaming mode, and a super fast Face unlock. This new method is not only fast but is also super convenient.

4. The Headphone Jack Stays

If you’re someone like me who still prefers wired earphones over wireless ones, thankfully the OnePlus 6 has still retained the headphone jack. Furthermore, OnePlus devices are known for their strong build quality and the newest addition is also no different. Both the front and the back of the phone is protected by Corning Gorilla Glass 5.

OnePlus 6 Cons

1. No Wireless Charging

When the leaks of the OnePlus 6 started doing the rounds, I seriously wished to see wireless charging on the OnePlus 6. Unfortunately, this year too, wireless charging has been given a pass. On the bright side, the OnePlus 6 packs its proprietary Dash Charger aka Fast Charge. In case you’re unaware, Dash Charge lets users charge their phones on the go. It can get you a whopping 50 percent battery level in about 30 minutes.

2. Water Resistant and Not Waterproof

Though OnePlus has claimed that they have put in extra efforts in making it a water-resistant phone (instead of waterproof), the OnePlus 6 doesn’t have an official IP-rating. So, you might want to think again before taking your phone out during heavy rains or during your swimming sessions.

3. Where’s the Stereo Sound?

I have never been a fan of the audio-output of OnePlus phones. If you ask me, I find the audio a bit shrill and annoying. Though the OnePlus 6 has improved in this ground a bit, it still lacks stereo speakers. For the price at which it’s being pitched, a tweeter on the speaker would have been a welcome addition.

4. No Selfies in Dark

If you are a selfie buff, we have a little bit of sad news. The OnePlus 6 doesn’t come with a selfie flash, which means that you can bid goodbye to low-light selfies. However, it lets you click beautiful pictures in the portrait mode through background software processing.

Will You Settle for it?

Though the OnePlus 6 doesn’t have as many bells and whistles as its peers, it’s not just ‘another’ phone in the market. With one of the fastest processors under its hood, a cool 19:9 AMOLED display (with a notch) and an awfully fast Dash Charger, it’s more than just an incremental upgrade over its predecessors. But it’s not without its share of cons. OnePlus has omitted a few important features in the 2018’s flagship device such as wireless charging, a high-res screen, waterproof body, etc. So, should you buy the OnePlus 6? Well, if you own a OnePlus 3/3T or a OnePlus 5/5T, I’d suggest to wait a few months and see what OnePlus has in store for the OnePlus 6T. If you recall, OnePlus is notorious for producing two flagships successively, which somehow reduces the importance of the earlier phone. Buy
