Where is the Slow Motion Mode?
Swipe up in the camera interface to access the Slow Motion mode. Tap on it, and you’re good to go. As we mentioned previously, there are two modes:
1080p @ 240 fps720p @ 480 fps
The second option is about eight times slower, but you get a fantastic footage in slow motion.
How to Spot Slow Motion Videos?
The gallery app on the OxygenOS indicates slow motion videos by a small play sign surrounded by dotted lines, as shown in the screenshot below.
1. Timing, Composition and Steady Hands
The key to a great slow motion video is the timing and the composition. An ill-timed video clip is almost good as no video. The same holds correct for the frame and the composition as well. A video with a great foreground but a poor background seldom add up. So, the next time you plan to capture a video in slow-motion, plan in such a way that all the three elements fall in place. 2. Shoot in Bright Natural Light
Next, shoot in a well-lit and bright area. You might have noticed a certain banding or flickering in the camera especially when shooting indoors. That happens because indoor florescent lights flicker and the camera happens to catch it. Another point to keep in mind is that even when there’s no flickering, indoor slow motion videos tend to be darker, and not to mention grainy, thus stealing the magic from the video.
3. Trim for Crisp Short Videos
Nobody would want to sit through boring and long videos. The key to short and crisp videos is to trim it such that audience can get to the real stuff super quick. Not only does it make it super fun to watch, but also make it easy to share. To trim a video, open it in the Gallery and tap on the Play button. Select Trim and drag the Start and the End slider and tap on Save. There, you have a short and simple video in just a few seconds.
5. Add the Right Music Track
Music is a crucial part of any video. The best part of the built-in editing suite is its music collection. Though a tad limited, you can select from funny tunes to slow tracks. In short, there are multiple music tracks for different moods. For instance, you’ve filmed your dog trying to catch his tail, you can add the Epic track to make it look comical. The tracks are available under Music. Simply tap on one to select and you can also tweak the music to some extent. Once you’ve chosen the track, tap on it again to display the EQ settings. Tweak it as per your liking and hit Save.
6. Add Music from Your Collection
The built-in music library is limited to a few tracks. So, if you’re someone like me who films slow motion videos at the drop of a hat, the chances are that you’ve already overused some of these tracks. One of the best places to look for audio tracks is on third-party video editing apps like Inshot Editor. It has tons of audio tracks for different moods and settings. Plus, the app is pretty much easy to use. All you have to do is open the track, and tap on Music > Featured, select a track and save the video. 7. Reverse for Extra Laughs
Imagine your little one leaping up to catch a flying disc. Now, visualize it again in reverse. Seems exciting, right? Yeah, reversing slow motion videos is fun. Unlike the Galaxy S9+, the OnePlus6/6T doesn’t bundle Loop or Reverse features. So we’d have to take the aid of third-party apps. Reverse Movie FX and ReverX are some of the best apps to rise to the occasion. Reverse Movie FX has a dated interface and takes a bit of time to generate the reversed clip. The good news is that the results are impeccable. To use this app, select the video clip and hit the Start button. The app will give you the option to choose the resolution. Once the clip has finished processing, you can save it. As opposed to it, ReverX has a slightly modern look, a better UI and also lets you add music from your own collection. 8. Add a Filter for the Right Effect
The built-in editing suite of the OnePlus 6/6T has another useful feature – Filters. Similar to photo filters, you can use them to enhance the overall looks by several folds. Simply pick one and hit save.
9. Share as GIFs
Last but not least, you can convert your slow motion videos into GIFs. Though there is a noticeable drop in quality (gets worse with indoor videos), GIFs are easy to share. Giphy is one of the best apps to create GIFs. It’s straightforward and easy to understand. Simply upload the video by tapping on the Plus button. Trim it, if it’s a terribly long video, and save it to your phone’s gallery.
